Now, back to normal programming…

PARENTAL ADVISORY, you may find this nauseating.

Every morning I get up and spring out of bed.
I’m excited to start my day because I love what I do.

I know, I know. Sickening, right?
But when you’re in the flow you’re in the flow.

But a couple of weeks ago, something felt off.

I was feeling totally exhausted: the need to sleep, not just once, but two or three times a day.

Not me.
At all

So when I had a call with my coach a week ago, we discussed it.

I came to the conclusion I’d been dealing with a lot. Issues came surfacing that I hadn’t addressed. I was burying emotions rather than dealing with them. And this was how it was showing up.

The upshot?

I took a week off.
And I grabbed it. Straight away.
When I say a week off, I mean ‘off’ off.

  • No email checking

  • No second guessing

  • No social media

  • No marketing posts

  • No newsletter (so, this one is a day later than normal)

  • No client calls

  • No planning or research.

  • No reflecting on what didn’t get done

Amongst other things, I spent two full days clearing out cupboards and hauling bags to the local charity shop.

It was cathartic.
A literal. as well as figurative, cleaning house.
I accomplished a lot. And it felt good.

And know what else?

Nothing broke.
Nothing.

All the worries I USED to have, simply weren’t there:

  • No guilt

  • No FOMO

  • No worrying about my business

  • No worrying about clients

  • No forward thinking what needs to be done when I get back

  • No. Stress.

When you’re a senior leader in an organisation, or when you run your own business, it can be difficult to detach.

For all kinds of reasons.
There’s a complex web of excuses we weave for ourselves.

What’s crazy is, I was talking to a client about this very thing.
This is what I coach, and why I started.

There’s another way to be successful without the anxiety, lack of confidence or imposter syndrome that can pop up.

Regardless of your role.
And sometimes, we need someone else to point out the obvious.

So ask yourself: If I can do it, why aren’t you?

When was the last time you took time off and didn’t:

  • take your work phone

  • check emails

  • think over deadlines

  • worry the ‘team won’t cope’

  • need the department to miss you

  • sit on the beach planning what you need to do when you get back.

This used to be me.

So take a deep look and ask yourself : Does your job run you?

Think through what’s causing any anxiety or stress and how that could be showing up.
It may not be obvious.
But you know something doesn’t feel right.

Most importantly, ditch the ego.

Talking it through helps, but get to the root cause and develop a strategy for dealing with it.

It is possible to be totally confident with where and how you are, and know where you’re going.

I’m now back, and as charged up as a field full of batteries.
I sprang out of bed this morning!
